Project Objective

Assist a study sponsor by adding additional sites that could enroll at an accelerated rate since enrollment was behind target. Organized health system based research centers were needed due to their ability, through Altura, to identify patients via databases and primary care physician offices.

Altura’s Solution

Altura launched a three-pronged approach to get the study back on track. First, after selecting the required number of additional research centers/investigators, Altura connected the health system’s primary care physicians for the project. Altura created the link between the primary care physicians and the research staff at the health center.

Second, Altura worked with the health system in order to access their database to identify patients through a HIPAA compliant process. A carefully designed, primary care physicians approved patient contact plan was developed. This database approach generated a significant number of eligible patients and complemented the in-office identification occurring with primary care physicians (e.g. foot-traffic).

Finally, Altura worked with the health system’s disease management and nursing teams to develop health system centric approaches to notify patients about the study. This combination turned out to be a focused solution to the sponsor’s enrollment challenges and yielded enrollment and retention rates well above average for all sites.
